About the Artists
Simone Woolerton
Simone Woolerton is a contemporary artist, born in London. Simone’s multimedia practice explores the intersections of phenomenology and the experience of the inner landscape. 'My work deals with the workings of the inner world, reflected in natural phenomena. Through Lithography, photography, video art, drawing and painting - Expressed across experimental media techniques, culminating works of energy/feeling of an experience. They are an act of observation and slowing of time, to view each fragment of the present as interdependent. I am excited by exploring how nature's elements get interpreted through this lens that is the human experience.' – Simone
Simone’s work has been exhibited in Somerset, London, Sweden and Greece.
Lilith Piper at her Studio
Lilith Piper works in painting, textile, print, drawing and performance. Lilith has been broadening her practice, working in changing mediums and scale, in different artistic fields, such as set design, performance art and mural painting with numerous exhibitions and live events. Through paint, textile, drawing, print and performance Lilith embodies ‘genius loci’ immersing herself in place not just in an observational way as she is interested in the enigmatic traces of past and present, the sacred and the spiritual. Always searching for the unseen energies transformed, flowing and flickering into existence like the fluid sounds of a song, Lilith finds this energy in both built upon and untouched places, finding a deeper time through drawing.

I AM AN ARTIST
Into the world of living artist Sylwia Pydych with guest Artist Simone Woolerton and Performance artists Valentine Fouros, Pexaras, Stefanie Foerster and Marina Concetti.
I AM AN ARTIST, Roupakias Greece
Sylwia Pydych born 1979
From a childhood in the countryside of communist Poland to years as an Au pair for families in New York, Sylwia Pydych experienced strikingly different worlds before pursuing her passion for art. In 2004, she enrolled at an art academy in Boulder, Colorado, where she graduated with a speciality in sculpture.
After completing her studies, Sylwia returned to Europe, embarking on a journey of travel and work across various countries. These experiences shaped her worldview and artistic vision, enriching her creative journey.
Years of exploration and countless adventures eventually led her to the Greek Ionian island of Lefkada. Here, she acquired a piece of land in the abandoned village of Roupakias, where she is rebuilding an old stone house and creating a multidisciplinary art space and plein-air art gallery.
Since settling in Lefkada, Sylwia and her partner have hosted three major art exhibitions and countless community events at their “Ruins,” a space where her whimsical artistry transcends conventional frames. Her passion for creating and sharing art, combined with her love for alternative living, has fueled multiple exhibitions across Europe over the last three years.
Through the Living Artist project, Sylwia seeks to illuminate the work of contemporary artists, bringing more attention to those who are living and creating in the present moment. She envisions this project expanding into art residencies, offering a space for artists to create, connect, and inspire.
Driven by a mission to highlight the importance of art in society, Sylwia continues to inspire and connect with diverse communities, bringing her vision of art and life to new places and people.
Sylwia has curated exhibitions within the ruins of the abandoned village and has collaborated with artists from around the world, she continues her journey and calls out for artists and art investors to build a foundation to protect and bring the ancient abandoned village to life through Art.
What Art does; in conversation with Sylwia Pydych
Art is the magic that breathes life into the ordinary. It is a whisper from the soul, a spark of wonder that reminds us what it means to be—to feel, dream, and connect. It is the thread that ties together the beauty of the world, the wildness of nature, the essence of humanity, and the pure joy of simply being alive.
Every brushstroke, every melody, every sculpted line is an invitation. It calls us to slow down, to look a little deeper, to rediscover the wonder that lies in our hearts. Art awakens the parts of us that might have been lulled to sleep by the routine of life. It makes us laugh, cry, and feel alive again.
“I believe that art is for everyone. It doesn’t matter where you come from, what you do, or how much you know. The piece that speaks to you, that stirs something inside, is your compass, your secret message from life itself, asking you to see yourself more clearly, to know yourself more fully.”

Letters to the Stone Lithograph exhibition 1 July - 1 September 2022 at The Chapel, Frome
Letters to the Stone, The Chapel Frome
Exhibition of Lithography works by Artists Simone Woolerton and Lilith Piper. Letters to the Stone reveal the chapters of Lithography through its process from stone to paper. The Chapel houses illumination of the Lithograph and its timeless techniques.
Simone states “We are fascinated by the alchemy of Lithography and how working with Lithography our paintings have a life of their own. We want to communicate this through the matrix of lithography with our Letters to the stone; conversations with the lithograph process unfolding from stone to paper. The etching process in lithography chemically changes the surface of the matrix and the image is printed from the flat surface of the stone. I question the nature of these materials and how they behave beneath the surface.”
Lilith and Simone show the traditional techniques of lithography in a new light through their Letters, Poetry, Painting, Prints and Performance works.
How can this conversation with stone and its process evoke story, myth and performance?
Lilith writes; Wherever the crayons mark the stone it becomes grease loving, the rest of the stone is treated so that it becomes water loving. Through the chemical process the fatty-acid particles contained in the drawing are liberated, permitting them to combine with the stone itself, and there is no longer need for the drawing materials that contain it. The drawing is allowed to be free but also controlled and contained. The design of these images appear as figures or traces of the human body. Through this process they are not 2D but sculptural, alive and held in a shape.
Lilith likens the stones to human female form in reference to the Christian legend that Merry Maidens and Nine Maidens stone circles, where women were caught dancing on the sabbath and were petrified as a result. The free dancing women shall be awakened through performance, a percolating poetry in the body, Lilith pursues lithography to deepen her drawing and conversation with stone and the natural world. Duality within nature (such as yin, yang, positive negative etc) is expressed through the Painterly and the pictorial and figurative imagery provide means of tapping into this elemental understanding. In the way that in nature the constant change in light, weather, seasons, and cycles affect a sacred place such as a stone circle or temple.
